Laurence T. Broderick has earned accolades as an organist, pianist, choral conductor, and professional tenor. Laurence comes from a rich Catholic tradition and graduated from Immaculate Heart of Mary School in Scarsdale, Regis High School in Manhattan, and the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, Indiana. He also is a proud graduate of the Hoff-Barthelson Music School in Scarsdale, where he began his intensive study of keyboard music with the illustrious Glen Kirchoff. Before coming to the Church of Saint Anthony of Padua, he was the Organist at the Church of Saint Benedict in Throggs Neck, and the Associate Choral Director and Assistant Organist at Saint Barnabas Church in the Bronx. He also directed the Liturgical Music Programs at the Immaculate Conception Church in Tuckahoe, the Church of Saint Bernard in White Plains, Saints Philip and James Church in the Bronx, and Morrissey Manor Chapel at Notre Dame.
Laurence is proud and honored to serve the parish family of the Church of Saint Anthony of Padua as Director of Music, Principal Organist, and Choir Master. Since his arrival in the Fall of 2007, he has enjoyed nurturing and expanding our choir through the exploration of the vast tradition of Liturgical Music from Plainchant to Renaissance to Gospel to Contemporary. Laurence also enjoys a fruitful and blossoming career as a professional lyric tenor. Having trained with masters of vocal performance and opera at both the Juilliard School and the Manhattan School of Music.
Laurence was praised in The New York Times for his impassioned singing of the title role in Huang Ruo’s Dr. Sun Yat-Sen, which was performed in Mandarin and Cantonese. He is in high demand as an organist and cantor for special liturgical celebrations throughout the Archdiocese. Additionally, Laurence is becoming increasingly recognized as a composer, arranger, and orchestrator of choral music, and for his own orchestrations of well-known hymnody.
