Hard to believe that this weekend marks the 5th week of Lent already! In the Gospel this Sunday we hear about the raising of Lazarus from the dead. Imagine being there when...
Our Lord and our Blessed Mother were entrusted to St. Joseph. Fittingly, St. Joseph is the patron saint of the entire Church, what we refer to as the Universal Church. Today more than ever at a time when Masses throughout the Archdiocese of New York have been canceled due to the recent epidemic, let us pray to St. Joseph that once again we may be able to return to Church for Mass and that we may be strengthen in faith, hope, and love.
No St. Patrick’s Day Parade?! What a fitting symbol of just how much our lives have changed in such a short period of time. It’s odd to have a St. Patrick’s Day without marching bands, bag pipes and snare drums…no one lining the streets along parade routes wearing every shade of green. The celebratory spirit we are more familiar with on this day has a markedly different tone. Perhaps today’s quieter, subdued, and somewhat penitential flavor...
It's amazing how quickly things can change! Within hours of posting an Archdiocesan directive about limitations with respect to Mass attendance, an announcement was made that Masses are CANCELED in the Archdiocese of New York. That policy is in effect here at St. Anthony's until we are given further notice. Even though the option to not attend Mass was always there in light of the extenuating circumstances related to the virus, perhaps the Cardinal did this to remove any concern of conscience amongst members of our communities who are more vulberable to this virus with respect to "having" to attend Mass. I will post any updates I receive with regard to how long this will be in effect. Many people will no doubt have not been made aware of this most recent restriction concerning Mass and will be showing up for Mass at the scheduled times this weekend. Given that as priests we celebrate Mass whether or not there is a congregation, we will be there at each of the scheduled Mass times offering our private Mass for the scheduled intention. The Church will be opened all day every day as usual for private prayer. Please email or call at any time if you wish to receive any of the sacraments of the Church. Your local shepherd, Fr. Tom
I enclosed the current directives from the Archdiocese of New York and the Governor. I hope this helps with regard any questions or concerns regarding the obligation to attend Mass at this time. Please consider that for as many people wanting Mass to be “canceled” for health reasons there may be as many who would desire the opposite at a time when people need access to the sacraments more than ever. This option... (click title above for more)
Week three of Lent is underway!! How are you holding-up? Remember, we are in this together! This is the great grace of Baptism. We are a part of a huge family, the family of God. What a comfort when we gather together for Mass and other occasions. When we look around at the sea of people around us, we remember that we are not alone on this journey. The Samaritan woman in this Sunday’s Gospel, however...
Has the coronavirus got your worried? It’s completely understandable. When we feel like we are not in control of something it can trigger all kinds of anxieties, especially when it comes to things that effect our health. It hit home for me the other day when an 8th grader mentioned ...
It was so great to see so many people coming out to St. Anthony’s and at Manhattanville College for the “Day of Dust” otherwise known as Ash Wednesday! Now that the “dust” has settled ...
